Glucosamine and Chondroitin in Preventing Inflammation in Overweight Patients

This trial studies glucosamine and chondroitin in preventing inflammation in overweight patients. Chronic inflammation contributes to cancer formation, and biomarkers of inflammation have ...

Effect of Galantamine on Inflammation and Cognition

This study tests whether galantamine (GAL) reduces HIV-related inflammation and cognitive deficits. In this double-blind placebo-controlled crossover study, HIV-infected individuals (N=120...

Dynamics of Inflammation and Its Blockade on Motivational Circuitry in Depression

The main purpose of this study is to examine the effects of infliximab on measures related to depression symptoms. Infliximab is also known by its brand name Remicade. Infliximab, or Remic...

Targeted Anticoagulation Therapy to Reduce Inflammation and Cellular Activation in Long-term HIV Disease

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of pharmacologic FXa inhibition (via edoxaban 30 mg daily) on inflammation, as reflected in plasma Interleukin-6 levels.

Effects of Inflammation on Affect and Behavior

Compelling evidence indicates inflammation plays a role in depression, but potential mechanisms linking inflammation to depression, such as dysregulated reward processing, are poorly under...

Tomato Phytonutrients Balance UV Response: Results from a Double-Blind, Randomized, Placebo-Controlled Study.

Our previous double-blinded, placebo-controlled cross-over study indicated that a nutritional supplement named lycopene-rich tomato nutrient complex (TNC) can protect from UVA1-induced (340-400 nm) an...

Using Placebo Beverages in Group Alcohol Studies.

Placebo beverage conditions remain a key element in the methodological toolkit for alcohol researchers interested in evaluating pharmacological and nonpharmacological factors influencing the effects o...

Rewarded placebo analgesia: A new mechanism of placebo effects based on operant conditioning.

Placebo analgesia is explained by two learning processes: classical conditioning and observational learning. A third learning process, operant conditioning, has not previously been investigated as a m...

A short essay on the spirituality of placebo from an (evolutionary) psychiatric perspective.

Different to spirituality, the placebo-effect is well operationalized. Against this background, an attempt is made to look at a possible phenomenological relationship between the therapeutic effective...

The Effects of Recombinant Human Lactoferrin on Immune Activation and the Intestinal Microbiome Among People Living with HIV Receiving Antiretroviral Therapy.

Lactoferrin modulates mucosal immunity and targets mechanisms contributing to inflammation during HIV disease. A randomized placebo-controlled cross-over clinical trial of human recombinant (rh)-lacto...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Misunderstanding among individuals, frequently research subjects, of scientific methods such as randomization and placebo controls.

An effect usually, but not necessarily, beneficial that is attributable to an expectation that the regimen will have an effect, i.e., the effect is due to the power of suggestion.

Inflammation of the PERIAPICAL TISSUE. It includes general, unspecified, or acute nonsuppurative inflammation. Chronic nonsuppurative inflammation is PERIAPICAL GRANULOMA. Suppurative inflammation is PERIAPICAL ABSCESS.

Inflammation of the lung parenchyma that is associated with PLEURISY, inflammation of the PLEURA.

Inflammation of the interstitial tissue of the kidney. This term is generally used for primary inflammation of KIDNEY TUBULES and/or surrounding interstitium. For primary inflammation of glomerular interstitium, see GLOMERULONEPHRITIS. Infiltration of the inflammatory cells into the interstitial compartment results in EDEMA, increased spaces between the tubules, and tubular renal dysfunction.
