Can Ultrasound Replace Amniocentesis for Confirming Fetal Lung Maturation Among Premature Fetuses?

2014-07-23 21:21:40 | BioPortfolio

Summary

The purpose of this study is to measure prenatally with ultrasound the intratracheal flow volume displaced during breathing cycle in premature fetuses and to check whether a relationship exists between the inspired fluid and fetal lung maturation.

Clinical study of fetal neurobehavior by the KANET test.

Fetal neurology is evolving as an area of great interest in prenatal diagnosis and fetal medicine. The identification and diagnosis of brain damage prenatally has been a great challenge in obstetrics ...

Lung Ultrasound to Detect Residual Pneumothorax After Chest Drain Removal in Lung Resections.

Indication for post-drain removal imaging after lung resection is debated. Chest x-ray (CXR) is widely used to confirm lung expansion but not evidence-based. We propose to introduce lung ultrasound (L...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

The potential of the FETUS to survive outside the UTERUS after birth, natural or induced. Fetal viability depends largely on the FETAL ORGAN MATURITY, and environmental conditions.

Functional competence of specific organs or body systems of the FETUS in utero.

The collecting of fetal blood samples via ultrasound-guided needle aspiration of the blood in the umbilical vein.

A nonreassuring fetal status (NRFS) indicating that the FETUS is compromised (American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists 1988). It can be identified by sub-optimal values in FETAL HEART RATE; oxygenation of FETAL BLOOD; and other parameters.

A clear, yellowish liquid that envelopes the FETUS inside the sac of AMNION. In the first trimester, it is likely a transudate of maternal or fetal plasma. In the second trimester, amniotic fluid derives primarily from fetal lung and kidney. Cells or substances in this fluid can be removed for prenatal diagnostic tests (AMNIOCENTESIS).
