RATIONALE: Aurora A kinase inhibitor MLN8237 and bortezomib may stop the growth of cancer cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. PURPOSE: This phase I/II trial is studying the side effects and best dose of giving aurora A kinase inhibitor MLN8237 together with bortezomib and to see how well they work in treating patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma.
The purpose of this trial is to study an investigational drug in patients with recurrent or non-responsive solid tumors, or cancers for which standard therapy does not exist.
The individual adapted sport modalities concentrate most of the technological development for equipment and auxiliary devices, the collective modalities need implements that aid in the development of training and the game.
RATIONALE: Aurora B/C kinase inhibitor GSK1070916A (GSK1070916A) may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. PURPOSE: This phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of GSK1070916A in treating patients with advanced solid tumors.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate a different type of medical equipment called "High-Resolution Microendoscope" for the diagnosis of cervical pre-cancerous lesions and cervical cancer. We want to compare the patients' clinical findings using the current equipment that we have in clinic with the clinical findings using the new equipment that we are testing on this research project. If the new equipment is proven to give comparable findings with the current equipment that ...
The purpose of this study is to assess the safety and tolerability of MK-0457(VX-680), an Aurora kinase inhibitor, in participants with advanced solid tumors. Bioavailability of the oral formulation will also be assessed. The primary study hypothesis is that administration of MK-0457 is sufficiently safe and tolerated to permit further study.

Principal aim The main purpose of the study is to describe the distribution of the sagittal profile in elderly subjects in order to bridge the gap present in this type of screening, evaluated in the literature for adults only (i.e. 160 subjects considered by Roussouly et al. in 2005). This classification assigns an integer value from 1 to 4 in relation to the evaluation of alignment of the lumbar spine and pelvis in the sagittal plane. The population description is therefore di...
The SPINEREG study is a prospective observational registry. Eligible patients are subjects undergoing spine surgery at the participating institutions. Baseline health status and follow-up health status are recorded at pre-established steps.
This study will explore how genes may influence the severity of ankylosing spondylitis, a form of arthritis that affects the spine. Patients have inflammation of the joints of the spine, which may cause the bones of the spine to fuse, resulting in difficulty performing daily activities. Patients who developed ankylosing spondylitis after age 16 may be eligible for this study. The onset of disease is dated to the first appearance of symptoms of inflammatory low back pain ...
Study with an investigational drug in patients with recurrent or non-responsive colorectal cancer or other advanced solid tumors. This is an early phase trial and some specific protocol information is proprietary and not publicly available at this time. (Full information is available to trial participants).
Lumbar degenerative diseases (LDD) are an increasingly common condition affecting millions of patients worldwide. LDD can impact not only function, but can also become markedly disabling and cause severe chronic pain. Recent studies support the idea that analysis of sagittal balance is a crucial keypoint to optimize the management of lumbar degenerative diseases, especially when spinal instrumentation is intended. The first treatment of these pathologies is a medical treatment...
Among advanced intubation equipment for difficult intubation, a lighted stylet (lightwand) is a widely used equipment in cervical immobilized patients. However, a lightwand, which is used blind, is difficult to make midline positioning and can increase airway complications and hemodynamic changes. In contrast, videolaryngoscope can view vocal cord indirectly through camera, however, it requires cervical movement. Therefore, investigator hypothesized that the combined use of vid...
Investigators plan to study the role of spine surgery analgesic pathways - for procedures with high risk of postoperative pain - in improving the quality of recovery
Anorectal 3D manometry (3D HRAM) is the most advanced version of manometric equipment that measures pressures along the anal canal in a very detailed manner. It provides complete data about pressure profile of anorectum and may indicate impaired defecation dynamics. Balloon expulsion test (BET) is a cheap, easy way to diagnose constipation as the result of outlet obstruction. Our aim is to compare this two methods of diagnosis of dyssynergic defecation and to find the co...
The purpose of this study is to determine whether an infusion of lidocaine during surgery can reduce the need for postoperative opioid pain medication use in patients undergoing lumbar spine surgery. Participants will be recruited by spine surgeons from their pool of patients who are presenting for surgery at University of Vermont Medical Center. If they agree to participate, patients will be assigned at random to receive either an infusion of lidocaine during surgery, o...
Low back and neck pain are among the leading causes of medical visits, lost productivity and disability. There is an urgent need to identify effective and efficient ways of helping subjects with acute spine pain while guiding practitioners towards high-value care. This trial will be a block and cluster-randomized open-label multi-centered pragmatic randomized clinical trial comparing healthcare spending and clinical outcomes for subjects with spine pain of less than six weeks d...
There is a clear need in spine surgery to place pedicle screws in the right place in the spine with good accuracy to avoid damage to important structures (spinal cord, nerve roots or vertebral arteries). The objective of the study is to investigate the accuracy of screw placement during spine surgery.
This R01 tests through RCT methodology efficacy of a new intervention designed specifically to aid development of positive coparenting alliances between at-risk (unmarried, uncoupled, low income) African American mothers and fathers having a first baby together.
The goal of this clinical research study is to learn whether delivering spine radiosurgery in a single large dose is better than delivering spine radiosurgery over 3 smaller doses. Researchers also want to learn about the effects of a single dose on participant's symptoms, pain, and quality-of-life.
Most bone marrow transplantations for malignant and non-malignant disease include whole body irradiation. Techniques for administering that treatment, including patient positioning, lung and soft tissue compensation, dose rate, total dose and fractionation differ between institutions. These differences are optimized at each institution to limit toxicity and maximize therapeutic outcome. Technically complex procedures such as total body radiation are subject to equipment ...
Spondylodiscitis is an infectious disease of the intervertebral discs and adjacent vertebral bodies, which often has a protracted progression. Diagnosis is frequently delayed because of the unspecific pathology and a lack of specific infection markers. However, an early diagnosis is fundamental to prevent long periods with symptoms including extensive back pain and progressive and destructive changes of the spine. Cytokines can be helpful to extend the knowledge about diverse ...
The effects of cervical spine manual therapy, including mobilization and manipulation, on cervical spine range of motion, joint position sense, and balance is unknown among individuals with cervicogenic headache. Previous studies have indicated improved frequency of headache, decreased perceived disability, and demonstrated improved neuromuscular function following upper cervical manipulation. Other authors report improved cervical spine range of motion, joint position sense, a...
