The Comparison of Outcomes of Antibiotic Drugs and Appendectomy (CODA) Trial

For the past 130 years, appendectomy has been the standard treatment for appendicitis. Recent studies from Europe have challenged the notion that surgery is the best option, showing that antibiotics alone can treat appendicitis without a need for appendectomy in as many as 3 out of 4 patients and without safety issues for up to one year of follow up. Despite these results, it remains to be determined if the antibiotic strategy is as good as an appendectomy for the outcomes that...

Prediciton of the Round Window Visibility Through Posterior Tympanotomy by CT Scan Analysis

It is difficult to predict the intraoperative visibility of the round window through the posterior Tympanostomy. In case of non-visualization, the surgeon may have to change operative technique during cochlear implant surgery. The primary purpose of the study is to define relevant CT measurements on the preoperative scanner to predict the perioperative visibility of the round window. Define relevant CT measurements on the preoperative scanner to predict the perioperative visib...

A Pilot Study of NY-ESO-1ᶜ²⁵⁹T Cells in Subjects With Advanced Myxoid/ Round Cell Liposarcoma

This study is for men and women who have a type of sarcoma that has returned after being treated, or that cannot be surgically removed. The specific type of sarcoma is Myxoid / Round Cell Liposarcoma, also known as High Grade Myxoid Liposarcoma. In addition to this disease patients must also have the tissue type HLA-A*02:01, HLA-A*02:05 or HLA-A*02:06, and a sample of tumor tissue must test positive for the NY-ESO-1 protein. The study treatment is made from some of the patien...

Cochlear Implant and Vestibular Function.

This study investigate weather one type of cochlear implant (CI) surgery (insertion of the electrode via paracentesis of the round window (RWA)) leads to less vertigo than another type of CI surgery (cochleostomy). The participants will be randomized into 2 groups: RWA or cochleostomy. They will be examined with a video head impulse test (vHIT) before and after CI surgery to clarify their vestibular function.

Evaluation of the Safety and Performance of SYMATESE AESTHETICS ESTYME® MATRIX Round and Anatomical Silicone Gel-Filled Breast Implants in the Breast Augmentation and Reconstruction - EMMIE Study

The study will evaluate the safety and performance of the ESTYME® MATRIX Round and Anatomical Silicone Gel-Filled Breast Implants in the breast augmentation and reconstruction.

Evaluation of the Effect of 3HP vs Periodic 3HP vs 6H in HIV-Positive Individuals

This study is a parallel, two part, open label, individually randomized, pragmatic trial among HIV-positive individuals. Part A compares a single round of weekly high dose rifapentine plus isoniazid for three months (3HP) to six months of daily isoniazid (6H). Part B compares periodic 3HP (p3HP) to a single round of 3HP.

Evaluation of an Intensive 3-round MDA Strategy Towards Yaws Eradication

The current principle of yaws eradication (the Morges strategy) is based on single round mass drug administration (MDA) of azithromycin (AZI) called total community treatment (TCT) followed by targeted treatment of active cases every 6 months to detect and treat cases and contacts called total targeted treatment (TTT). Studies done in Papua New Guinea (PNG) show that 1 round of MDA will probably not suffice to stop transmission of infection. It may be preferable to conduct 3 ro...

Sub-chronic Neurostimulation Delivered in the Middle Ear for Tinnitus Suppression

The objectives of this study are to evaluate the safety and efficacy of applying electrical stimulation on the Promontorium and the vicinity of the round window for the suppression of tinnitus in a sub-chronic stimulation regimen. In this study Electrical Promontory stimulation (EPS) will be applied using the NIMBUS multifunctional stimulator and it's monopolar 0.5mm electrodes which will be placed on the Promontorium and the anteriori-inferior ridge of the round window niche.

Evaluation of a Video-Based Media Series to Promote Effective Parenting

Researchers are developing and experimentally evaluating two variants of a 10-episode, brief (12 minutes per episode), infotainment-style television series targeted at parenting practices, to determine the potential value of television for bringing evidence-based parenting practices to parents. The study compares an "information-only" version of the television series against an "enhanced" version that is designed to actively promote parents' adoption of the targeted strategies....

The Effect of Pressure Exerted on the Maternal Abdominal Wall by the Ultrasound Probe on Fetal Heart Rate
