The aim of this study is to evaluate the analgesic efficacy of fascia iliaca compartment block using bupivacaine versus bupivacaine with dexamethasone or magnesium sulphate for dynamic hip screw surgery under spinal anesthesia. The primary outcome will be the duration of effective analgesia from FICB till the first analgesic dose is required, the secondary outcomes will be the severity of postoperative pain as will be assessed by the visual analogue scale and the total dose of ...
Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is one of the most commonly undertaken neuromodulatory surgery techniques in the treatment of neuropathic pain. The indication for SCS is an ineffective conservative treatment of chronic pain syndromes. The effectiveness of SCS in the case of neuropathic pain is high. The positive result of SCS treatment is the reduction of previous painful symptoms by min. 50% and / or a reduction in the amount of taken analgesics and an improvement in the quality...
In this double blind, crossover study participants will consume a cranberry beverage and a cranberry-flavored beverage for 2 weeks each. Gut permeability will be assessed weekly using aspirin and food-grade sugar molecules. Participants will be asked to provide urine, blood, saliva and stool samples to assess gut permeability and microbial communities. No change in permeability to the small sugar probes is anticipated with the cranberry beverage
The current study will investigate methods for enhancing cognitive training (CT) effects in healthy older adults by employing a combination of interventions facilitating neural plasticity and optimizing readiness for learning. Adults over the age of 65 represent the fastest growing group in the US population. As such, age-related cognitive decline represents a major concern for public health. Recent research suggests that cognitive training in older adults can improve cognitive...
Patients who underwent retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) were randomly allocated to general anesthesia (GA) or spinal anesthesia (SA) groups. Renal function was assessed using estimated glomerular filtration rate, and relative renal function was evaluated using nuclear medicine tests. Maneuverability and accessibility were evaluated after every surgery. We analyzed the influence of anesthesia methods on surgical outcomes and renal function in retrograde intrarenal surgery in...
Anemia affects between 20 and 50 % of women in the postpartum period. It is associated with several adverse health consequences, such as impaired physical work capacity, deficits in cognitive function and mood, reduced immune function and reduced duration of breastfeeding. Postpartum anemia has also been shown to be a major risk factor for postpartum depression and to significantly disrupt maternal-infant interactions. Iron deficiency is the principal cause of anemia after deli...
This study aims to investigate life-style and psycho social factors of major cardiovascular events in patients with myocardial infarction in three different provinces of Iran and to design a risk assessment chart for major cardiovascular events in patients with MI.
The aim of the present study was to compare the effectiveness of transmuscular Quadratus Lumborum block using Bupivacaine versus Bupivacaine- Dexamethasone in providing analgesia in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Because postoperative pain after laparoscopic surgery is complex, specialists suggest that effective analgesic treatment should be a multimodal support. Quadratus lumborum block (QLB) is a new abdominal truncal block for controlling somatic pain in ...
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a condition defined as a disease state characterized by airflow limitation that is not fully reversible. The airflow limitation is usually progressive and is associated with an abnormal inflammatory response of lungs to noxious particles or gases, primarily caused by cigarette smoking. The accelerated decline in lung function is closely associated with an increased number of neutrophils in the sputum and hence with higher level of...
The purpose of the study was to investigate the therapeutic effect of Yoga on aromatic inhibitor-induced chronic knee pain in patients with breast cancer.
Cytoreductive surgery (CRC) with intraperitoneal hyperthermal chemotherapy (HIPEC) has been shown to improve survival in selected patients with peritoneal carcinomatosis. 51% of patients are transfused due to the high intraoperative blood loss caused by surgery and the appearance of a perioperative coagulopathy attributed to the loss of proteins into the peritoneal cavity, the high fluid turnover and possibly the action of hyperthermic chemotherapy. So far, the haemostatic chan...
Hypertension is closely related to metabolic abnormalities such as obesity, dyslipidemia and diabetes. When hypertension is complicated with metabolic abnormalities, target organ damage is more serious, the risk of cardiovascular adverse events is greater, and the treatment is more complex. The pathophysiological mechanism of obesity-associated hypertension has its particularity. Blood pressure control and effective control of obesity are important therapeutic targets. At prese...
The purpose of D-pro is to investigate the combined and separate effects of milk protein and vitamin D on bone health, growth, muscle function, body composition and cardiometabolic health in 6-8-year-old children.
The purpose of this study is to explore the efficacy and safety of autologous adipose mesenchymal stem cells in the treatment of early knee arthritis. Investigator believes that autologous adipose mesenchymal stem cells can relieve pain, improve knee function, promote knee cartilage regeneration and improve life satisfaction of patients.
The Emergency Department (ED) can be stressful and traumatic, especially for children and young people, and the clinical environment can be a frightening, unfamiliar space, which adds to an already anxious experience. Musicians from Cascade Music, who have an established track record of working with the Paediatric ED, will provide recruited participants in the experimental arm with high-quality calming, distracting music during selected procedures. A wide range of music will b...
Managing pain, which affects 20-50% of the population, is a major issue in daily clinical practice. Evaluation of pain intensity is essential to adapt treatment but as it mainly relies on self-report, this assessment is difficult or impossible in non-communicating patients. In these cases, pain can only be evaluated by medical staff by the observation of pain-related characteristics like facial expression of pain (FEP). However, recognition of FEP is subjective, time-consuming ...
The purpose of this study is to characterize the link between neurobehavioral measures of the mesolimbic reward system and immune functioning in healthy individuals, via fMRI neurofeedback modulation of mesolimbic reward system, and the consecutive assesment of immune response to Hepatitis B vaccination.
Bladder pain and urgency are common after bladder surgery. The objective is to determine if transdermal administration is superior to oral administration in alleviating pain and urgency.
Obesity leads to a vicious circle that increases intramuscular fat, insulin resistance, promotes muscular dysfunction resulting in increased muscle fat accumulation. The study of muscle function and intramyocellular lipids is insufficient for obesity. Particularly, the study of mechanisms in muscle function and intramyocellular lipids is few nationally and internationally.
Most patients presenting to hospital with symptoms of a heart attack are sent home without further tests once a heart attack has been ruled out. Current strategies to assess patients with a suspected heart attack involve blood tests to measure troponin, a protein released into the bloodstream when the heart muscle is damaged. Despite having had a heart attack ruled-out, some patients have unrecognised heart disease and are at risk of having a heart attack in the future. Howeve...
This is a Phase I/II, double-blind, parallel-group, randomized, placebo-controlled multi-centre trial in 180 patients randomized 1:1:1 to receive the IMP (Dexamethasone acetate microspheres for extended-release injectable micro-suspension, SX600 at 12.5 mg or 25.0 mg) or Placebo (0.9% Sodium Chloride for Injection, BP) via transforaminal epidural injection to the lumbosacral epidural space.
Health literacy is the ability to access, understand, evaluate and apply information in order to communicate with health professionals and understand health instructions but also, promote, maintain and improve health throughout life. Health literacy (HL) is known as a health determinant. An association has been shown between low HL and poorer health outcomes such as increased number of unscheduled hospitalisation or emergency visits, low medication adherence and poor hea...
