Following waking up from surgery performed under general anesthesia, patients are suffering from discomforting oral dryness, and moreover, they are not allowed drinking for 24 hours. The current management involves the wetting of patient's lips using wet bandage. This action is dependent on the presence of a family member or a nurse, which is not always possible. Many patients describe the oral dryness as a suffering, added to the suffering anyway entailed by surgery. Th...

Monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis (MEN) is a common problem in children, affecting 7-10% of all 7 year olds. MEN is often leading to psychosocial problems because of its burden and stigmatism. The only available medical treatment option is the vasopressin analogum Desmopressin®. However, according to the literature, only one third of patients shows a good treatment response, defined as more than 90% of reduced bed wetting. Furthermore, treatment with Desmopressin® may...

The purpose of this post-market study is to evaluate UFE agents for the treatment of symptomatic uterine fibroids, using Gel-Bead compared to four other commonly used embolic agents.
Over 1.5 billion people are infected with soil-transmitted helminths (STH). Global STH guidelines recommend MDA (mass drug administration) of albendazole or mebendazole to targeted populations, including pre-school age children and school-age children. However mathematical models suggests that current MDA strategies are not sufficient for interrupting disease transmission in most areas. Meanwhile many lymphatic filariasis (LF) programs have successfully treated entire populatio...
The purpose of this Academic Research Enhancement Award proposal is to conduct a small-scale health-related research project on text messages to improve adherence to oral chemotherapy agents. As a result, the overall objective of this proposal is to strengthen the research environment in the College of Nursing so that it can develop into a significant healt...
Lupus erythematosus systemic is an auto-immune disease the evaluation of the activity of which remains very difficult because of an heterogeneousness of the clinical and biological symptoms. The aim of this study is to develop objective, specific and not invasive methods of evaluation of the activity and the forecast of the disease by using an analysis of the transcriptome on circulating blood. A transcriptomic analysis will be realized in parallel by the usual clinico-biologic...

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of the AQUABEAM System for the treatment of Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (LUTS) resulting from Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH).
Mass drug administration (MDA) of albendazole (ABZ) to school-age and pre-school-age children is the currently recommended strategy for controlling soil-transmitted helminthiasis (STH) in endemic areas. Recent mathematical modelling suggests that community-wide MDA will be required in order to interrupt transmission of STH. DEWORM3 aims to determine the feasibility of eliminating STH through expanded and intensified MDA strategies. In order to ensure rigorous trial results, it ...

The introduction of one dose of the inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV) into routine immunization schedules in OPV-only using countries as part of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) was planned for completion in 2016. However, due to recent developments in the global IPV supply landscape, the GPEI polio eradication program is facing a critical shortage of the vaccine which is forecast to continue until at least the end of 2017. The shortage means that some countrie...
The WHO Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR) developed a Community-Directed Treatment (COMDT) approach, which has been adopted in the control of onchocerciasis and lymphatic filariasis. WHO has recommended the use of COMDT approach in the control of schistosomiasis and STH infections. The COMDT approach has been compared with the school based programmes in certain African countries, but not with the health-facility based approach. The pro...
Heart failure (HF) is a major health problem worldwide but there is no global HF study that documents demographics, socioeconomic and clinical factors, diagnostic and management patterns, etiology, biomarkers, co-morbidities, treatments, quality of life, barriers to care and outcomes in all parts of the world. Such knowledge is essential in the prevention and treatment of this global disease. The Global Congestive Heart Failure Registry (G-CHF) is a global registry of approxima...
