E-T Tube Cuff Pressure Change After Changing Position From Neutral to Hyperextension of Neck

This study evaluates difference of the endotracheal tube cuff pressure between a tapered- versus a cylindrical- shaped cuff after changing from neutral to hyperextension of neck. Fifty patients undergoing thyroidectomy are randomly allocated into two groups (tapered- and cylindrical-shaped cuff). Endotracheal tube cuff pressure is initially set at 20 cmH20 in the supine neutral position and is measured after the change to the neck extension.

This randomized controlled study will examine the effects of different interpersonal gratitude journals compared to a neutral control journal on psycho social outcomes.

Assessment of Spinal Stability

The purpose of this study is to verify the existence of neuromuscular neutral zones(NNZs) in humans, and develop non-invasive techniques to measure intervertebral kinematics of the lumbar spine. The results will be used to accurately quantify NNZs in humans, and provide a foundation for clinical trials on low back pain patients using this methodology.

The Effect of Neutral Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) Solution With Minimal Glucose-Degradation-Product (GDP) on Fluid Status and Body Composition

Chronic utilization of bio-incompatible peritoneal dialysis (PD) solution has been implicated as a cause of progressive loss of peritoneal permeability and recurrent fluid overload in PD patients. Previous studies show that PD solution with neutral pH and low GDP resulted in a superior profile of PD effluent mesothelial cell marker and a lower degree of systemic inflammation as compared to conventional PD solution. The investigators propose a prospective randomized control stud...

Ultrasound Guided Sciatic Nerve Block

The primary purpose of this study is to determine whether the leg positioning or distal tourniquet used during the injection of local anesthetic may decrease the onset time and prolong the duration of analgesia of ultrasound-guided Sciatic Nerve Block (SNB) with popliteal approach. Patients will be divided randomly into three groups: group 1 will receive sciatic nerve block, with leg kept in a neutral position after anesthesia (control group); group 2 will receive the same anes...

Study Assessing the Position of Cricothyroid Membrane in Relation to Movement of Neck From Neutral to Extended Position

Ability to provide oxygen to patients undergoing general anaesthesia is crucial. This is traditionally provided using face mask, supraglottic airway (breathing tube above voice box) or endotracheal tube (breathing tube in wind pipe). However in some patients it may be impossible to provide oxygen through any of these above means which can be life threatening and lead to permanent brain damage/death. One of the ideal ways of managing this emergency situation is to pass a breathi...

"Neutral Position" and "Sniffing Position" for Orotracheal Intubation With "Trachway" Intubating Stylet in Adults

The purpose of this study is to investigate two different patient's head and neck positions(neutral position and sniffing position) for the effectiveness of orotracheal intubation with using the "Clarus Video System (Trachway®)" intubating stylet.

Effects of Genuine vs Sham Acupuncture and Communication Type on Relaxation

The purpose of this study is to investigate if it is possible to influence the participants' expectations to improve outcome, in this particular setting the relaxing effects of one single acupuncture treatment with genuine or sham needles combined with positive or neutral communication regarding expected relaxing effects.

Carnoy`s Solution Versus Formalin in Rectal Cancer Specimens Following Neoadjuvant Chemoradiation: a Randomized Trial

This study evaluates the number of lymph nodes dissected in rectal cancer specimens following fixation with 10% neutral buffered formaldehyde or Carnoy's solution. Half of the specimens with be fixed in each solution.

The Effect of Drinking-Water pH on the Human Gut Microbiota

This study evaluates the effect of alkaline (pH=9) versus neutral (pH=9) drinking-water on the gut microbiota of healthy male volunteers.

Intraocular Pressure (IOP) Assessed by Dynamic Contour Tonometer (DCT) and Goldman Applanation Tonometry (GAT)

The purpose of this study is to evaluate an assessment of the intraocular pressure with the dynamic contour tonometry and the Goldmann applanation tonometry in patients with active anterior uveitis.

A Study for Patients With Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

A Clinical Research Studying a Method of Intervention for Children Diagnosed With Anxiety Disorder: Attentional Bias Intervention

Studies show that children with high levels of anxiety tend to pay more attention to threatening stimulus in the environment. They tend to attend to these stimuli and have difficulty to disengage from them. These attention biases enhance and maintain the level of anxiety. The aim of this study is to test a method of therapeutically intervention which focuses on shifting these attentional biases, with the use of a computer game which was designed to train the child to focus his/...
