A Phased-Implementation Feasibility and Proof-of-Concept Study to Assess Incorporating the NIDA CTN Common Data Elements (CDEs) Into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) in Large Primary Care Settings ("CDE-EHR-PC" Study), Phase 3
This is a 4-phase study to implement the NIDA CDEs in primary care settings. Collecting and utilizing the CDEs in clinical practice requires a strategy for implementing screening to collect substance use information that populates the CDEs, and assisting primary care medical staff to offer appropriate interventions by providing clinical decision support (CDS) and a mechanism for making referrals to addiction treatment. Investigators aim to maximize the efficient adoption of scr...

Opioids are commonly prescribed for surgical patients to treat moderate to severe pain after surgery. However, opioids can be associated with serious complications such as respiratory depression and death. Currently, it is not routine practice to educate surgical patients about the risks of opioids and how to safely use opioids after surgery. The investigators have developed an educational pamphlet specifically for surgical patients to educate them about the safe use of opioids...

Cancer pain is undertreated despite a good access to opioids in France. Although many factors are involved, the barriers related to the patient (and his family) are often reported .the reluctance of the patient or the family to take the prescribed medication is linked to misconceptions about the opioids , cultural barriers; or the lack of explanations provided by the physician. Some patients can have undiagnosed slight cognitive impairment .The situation is now more complicated...

Epidural anesthesia is used to relieve labour pain which helps reduce labour stress, increase comfort and improve cooperation with medical personnel. Administering opioid into the epidural space before cervical dilation of 4cm in the primigravida or 3cm in the multiparous can effectively reduce the pain levels with no effect on the labour progress. The aim of the study is to compare different opioids administered in this early labour stage.

National guidelines advocate the use of paracetamol in conjunction with strong opioids for cancer pain, despite a lack of evidence for its efficacy. Work is needed to examine the analgesic benefit of paracetamol in this large patient group. The investigators aim to establish if paracetamol in combination with strong opioids provides superior analgesia for cancer related pain over strong opioids alone.
