The purpose of this pilot study is to test the efficacy, feasibility, and acceptability of a brief, online, mind-body wellness program to reduce stress and promote resilience in military caregivers.
It is a well known fact that the JAK-STAT pathway plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of alopecia areata. Both phosphorylated STAT 1 and 3 have been found to be upregulated in the disease (Xing et al., 2014). However, whether this pathway plays a role in other hair loss disorders remains unclear.(Sivan et al., 2015). Our study aims at assessing STAT3 levels in male patients with androgenetic alopecia. We hypothesize that STAT3 levels will be elevated (due to a previous stu...
The study enrolles all consecutive patients undergoing cardiac surgery at the European Hospital, Rome. The population undergoes randomization to receive usual surgical hemostasis or added topical application of Omni-stat Celox. The two populations are followed up prospectively as regarding blood loss and need for blood transfusions, as well as adverse events at 30 days after surgery.
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) poses a significant burden on the patients and the health care system. The increasing number of surgery performed in elderly population results in an increased number of perioperative T2DM-related adverse effects. T2DM has a prevalence of 30-40% in a population undergoing cardiovascular surgery. Cardiac surgery, especially cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) is also known to deteriorate cerebral oxygenation. Furthermore, acid-base balance of patients u...
This study will investigate whether inhibitors of the JAK / STAT signaling pathway can increase anti-inflammatory functions of B cells in patients with RA using in vitro and in vivo experiments.
This protocol is intended to test the feasibility of using the HIV 1/2 STAT-PAK and the DPP HIV 1/2 test (with and without the DPP Handheld Reader) to detect HIV antibodies in oral fluids.
This phase I trial studies the side effects and best dose of STAT inhibitor OPB-111077 when given together with decitabine in treating patients with acute myeloid leukemia that does not respond to treatment or is newly diagnosed and ineligible for intensive chemotherapy. STAT inhibitor OPB-111077 and decitabine may stop the growth of cancer cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth.
Overweight and obesity play a role in both cancer incidence and survival rates. Many people have found attending weight loss support groups to be time-intensive. Past research has shown electronic media, particularly the Web, to be effective in producing weight loss. The Web, however, lacks portability, which prevents people from accessing the information when it is convenient for them. Providing weight loss information via podcasting (audio files that may be listened to on por...
The goal of this clinical research study is to learn if the supplements Pro-Stat (which has l-arginine and also contains protein) and omega-3 fatty acids which can help inflammation and recovery after radical cystectomy in bladder cancer patients.
This is a randomized, controlled trial to compare supported treadmill ambulation training (STAT) to conventional gait training for improving gait speed, gait endurance, gait efficiency and muscle function in SCI subjects injured more than six months prior to start of training. Each subject will receive twelve weeks of either CGT or STAT, given as 20 minutes of training within a one-hour period per day, five days per week. These subjects will be studied baseline, 4,8 and 12 we...
Based on preclinical data implicating GR, AR, and JAK/STAT activation as potent mechanisms of breast cancer cell survival despite chemotherapy administration (i.e. chemotherapy resistance), the study will test a novel approach for improving chemotherapy effectiveness by adding Hsp90 inhibition to antagonize the anti-apoptotic signaling pathways that are initiated via GR, AR, and JAK/STAT activation.
The purpose of this single-centre, randomized, double-blind, parallel control, phase 3 study is to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of a rabies vaccine (Vero Cell) for human use in healthy Chinese subjects aged 10-60 years, according to the Essen methods (1-1-1-1-1) vaccination.
The patients scheduled for laparoscopic cholecystectomy will be allocated to 3 groups. Group A and B patients will listen to a positive message under general anesthesia. Group C patients will not listen to the message. The postoperative pain, analgesic consumption and frequency of nausea, vomiting and emergence agitation episodes will be documented and compared between the 3 groups.
Patients undergoing surgery on their Aorta can get ischemia, a lack of blood flow, to their intestines and colon. This is very serious, as 2 out of 3 patients who have this problem die before leaving the hospital. A device developed by Spectros, called T-Stat, is approved by the US FDA to detect ischemia, and has been reported to detect ischemia in AAA aneurysm surgery and stenting, allowing the surgeon or interventional radiologist to take action quickly, while the colon ische...
An acute psychotic episode is a severe psychiatric syndrome which might occur in different psychiatric diagnoses. The outcome prediction of relapse rate of a psychotic episode within a certain time frame is difficult and depends on many factors. More and better predictors are required to improve the outcome prediction in order to adjust therapy and follow-up if patients suffer from this acute disease. Copeptin, a surrogate marker for vasopressin, has been proven helpful...
This is an observational neuroimaging treatment study. This study involves examining the neural circuitry of controlled treatment of patients presenting with a first-episode of psychosis with risperidone. Patients who present for treatment of a first psychotic episode with a schizophrenia spectrum diagnosis and who are eligible to undergo treatment with risperidone will be offered participation in the study. Clinical ratings, neuropsychological testing, neuroimaging and EEG wil...
The purpose of this study is to determine whether the addition of minocycline or placebo to treatment as usual (TAU): 1. prevents the accumulation of negative symptoms and intellectual decline following a first episode of non-affective psychosis; and 2. whether minocycline stabilizes the efficacy of antipsychotics.
This study is aimed at determining whether listening to music during exercise will improve health-related outcomes for individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Half of the participants will listen to music while they exercise and half will not listen to music. The study will follow participants during their pulmonary rehabilitation program and for 6 months following completion of the program.
This study attempts to observe the effectiveness and safety of aripiprazole in hospitalized patients with acute schizophrenia episode, and to compare the different drug regimens that may be involved in order to clarify the characteristics of the population for taking aripiprazole and provide reference for clinical rational drug use.
Welichem Biotech has developed a small molecule drug candidate, WBI-1001, that selectively targets the pathogenic features of inflammatory skin diseases, including atopic dermatitis (a form of eczema). The purpose of this clinical trial is to further test the safety and efficacy of WBI-1001 as a topically applied cream over an extended period of 12 weeks on patients with mild to moderate atopic dermatitis.
Pevion Biotech has designed a therapeutic vaccine to treat patients who suffer from chronic hepatitis C virus infection. The vaccine is based on a combination of the PeviPRO and PeviTER platforms using synthetic peptide antigens from the hepatitis C virus. Generally, a cellular immune response by cytotoxic T-lymphocytes (CTL) seems to be crucial in overcoming a hepatitis C virus infection. In-depth research in recent years has shown that the cellular immune response is even mor...
