The combined analysis of microbiome, immunological parameters and host genetics in patients has potential for applying personalized approaches of prevention, diagnostics or therapy in the future. However, the acquisition and analysis of these patient characteristics in a scientifically sound, technically reliable, cost-effective, practicable and future-oriented fashion are a far from trivial task. Therefore the objectives of the study are (i) to optimize a sample and data acqui...
The European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) guidelines have not made any specific recommendations regarding dietary pulses. The study will examine how training of nursing home physicians on reviewing prescription lists using the Norwegian general practice criteria - Nursing homes (NorGeP-NH) will influence the participants` clinical symptoms such as cognition, depression, anxiety and thei...
Low back pain (LBP) is common in the population and has great socioeconomic consequences for societies across Europe and the United States. About a third of working-age adults have frequent LBP, and for about 10% the pain becomes chronic with consequences for work and leisure activities. A Cochrane review from April 2017 concluded that physical exercise is an intervention with few adverse events and positive outcomes on pain and function in adults with chronic pain (Geneen 2017...
In Canada and worldwide there is a need for updated independent real-world comparative effectiveness and safety data related to biologic drugs including biosimilar drugs. Biosimilar drugs hold potential to improve access to needed therapies at reduced cost enabling savings to be reallocated to other needs. However updated real-world evidence on comparative effectiveness and safety of biosimilar drugs is lacking. Investigators aim to demonstrate feasibility of creating network o...
The DECART study will determine if primary care physicians, including internists and family physicians, are able to identify and address drug-drug interactions among simulated patients and whether those physicians, when given access to Aegis Drug-Drug Interaction test results, improve patient management, take steps to reduce DDI risk, and optimize unnecessary resource utilization.
Objectives: This protocol addresses the first phase of a larger project funded by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute to help heavy smokers make informed decisions about lung cancer screening with low-dose computed tomography (CT). A separate IRB protocol will be submitted for the larger, comparative study. In this initial development phase, our prototype patient decision aid will be updated to reflect current guidelines about lung cancer screening. The upda...
More than a decade ago, uterus transplantation (UTx) as a highly experimental procedure was the treatment which had been developed for women suffering from absolute uterine factor infertility (AUFI) [uterus absence (congenital and surgical), or an abnormality (anatomic and functional)]. In Egypt, People's religions, current ethical and legal backgrounds make the option of live-donor uterus transplantation appealing rather than alternative pathways to parenthood. Thus, it...
All COPD patients with a diagnosis of acute exacerbation in emergency room in University Hospital of Amiens-Picardie between 01/01/2017 and 31/12/2017. We will collect for each patient the home address and the work address. The duration of 1 year was chosen to take into account seasonal variations. In parallel, a daily report of the rate of ozone, particles (PM2.5 and PM10), dioxide nitrogen but also odours and pollens will be done by ATMO Picardie.

This is a prospective pilot study designed to suggest differences in the immunologic response to the seasonal influenza vaccine in people with regular vaccination history compared to those vaccinated less regularly. Participants will receive one dose of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved 2016-2017 seasonal influenza vaccine. Immune system data will be collected at standard time points. The duration of the study for each participant will be approximately 1 month.
Aim of this study is to reflect on the changing trends in absolute numbers, surgical techniques and indications of corneal transplantations being performed in Germany. In 2017, the Section Cornea of the German Ophthalmological Society provides an interim-assessment about the most up-to-date results of this long-term study over a period of sixteen years between 2001 and 2016.
The purpose of this study is to measure the effects of an enhanced service where a pharmacists is part of the healthcare team on the ward (focusing on drug-related problems and transferring information between primary and secondary care). Primary outcome measure is visits to hospital during a 12-month follow-up period, and the population is patients 80 years and older.
Patients with terminal chronic kidney disease (CRD) need renal function supplementation, namely dialysis or renal transplantation. Transplantation is the most efficient and cost-effective treatment. Early and equitable access to transplantation is a public health issue. Access to transplantation is facilitated by early and systematic information and assessment of patients for inclusion in the national waiting list for transplantation prior to the onset of dialysis, and by the d...
Retrospective case-note review to determine if nutrition via the enteral compared to the parenteral route results in better outcomes after haematopoietic cell transplantation.
Evaluation of acute kidney injury, renal recovery and development of chronic kidney disease in patients undergoing lung transplantation
Oral anticoagulation therapy (OAC) entails a high potential for adverse events and strict adherence is needed. Thus, medication review and identification of safety issues and knowledge gaps about OAC is critically important. The polymedication check (PMC) is a reimbursed intermediate medication review focusing on adherence and medication management for Swiss primary care. Investigators aime to assess the impact of the PMC extended with a semi-structured interview focusing on OAC...
In this study we wish is to determine whether extensive (up to 15 hours) multidisciplinary consultation in biostatistics, study design, data management, ethics, and writing provided by the UCSF Clinical and Translational Science Institute's (CTSI) Consultation Services program, improves peer review scores of career development grants compared to usual levels of consultation. We hypothesize that extensive multidisciplinary consultation will improve peer review scores of c...

This is a pilot randomized controlled trial examining the feasibility of conducting a large scale randomized controlled trial of belatacept-based immunosuppression in lung transplantation. This pilot study will enroll 40 lung transplant recipients and randomize them to belatacept-based immunosuppression or standard of care. The primary endpoint of the study is the development of donor-specific HLA antibodies after transplantation. All study participants will be followed for a m...
Adverse Drug Related Events (ADREs) are a leading cause of Emergency Department (ED) visits in Canada. However emergency physicians recognize only half of all ADREs in patients presenting to the ED, missing opportunities to intervene. The objective of this study is to develop a screening strategy that identifies patients with ADREs. Our hypothesis is that the development of a user-friendly, reliable screening strategy for ADREs in patients presenting to the ED is feasible. We b...
