Endotracheal intubation is the gold standard for securing the airway. However, while managing patients with difficult airways, various supraglottic devices have been used as rescue airway devices. The aim of this study is to compare the fiberoptic view through the internal aspect of the i-gel versus the Air-Q LMA in pediatric patients. By examining the fiberoptic view through these two devices, the investigators will determine which device provides a clearer passage to the glot...
This cross-over study of 12 patients with sarcoidosis will look at two different widely-used accelerometer devices. These devices are wrist worn and similar in size to a wrist-watch. They measure daily activity levels. The investigators hope to use one of these devices in the future within a randomised-controlled trial looking at using methylphenidate for the treatment of sarcoidosis-associated fatigue. In order to ensure that the investigators choose the ideal device the inves...
Epidemiological studies have shown that patient transfer is a risk factor for back pain, back injuries and long term sickness absence, whereas consistent use of assistive devices during patient transfer is associated with reduced risk of back injury. In consequence, Danish hospitals have made great efforts to increase knowledge, availability and use of assistive devices to reduce work-related physical strain due to patient transfer. Yet, a recent survey among more than 300 nurs...
This study evaluates the efficacy of the AuryzoN devices in the ear and nose reconstruction surgeries, both in terms of operative time and overall quality of reconstruction. Research participants will undergo reconstruction either using the AuryzoN device or through current methods (traditional manual processing) at the discretion of their surgeon prior to the start of surgery.
This research includes the evaluation of a checklist and on-site screening devices to pre-select drivers suspected of being drug-impaired. The reliability of a limited number of promising on-site screening devices will be investigated. The devices tested will have to be promising regarding both reliability and practicality. In addition to the scientific evaluation of the checklist and the oral fluid screening devices, the time consumption of the selection procedure as a whole (...
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as rebeccamycin analog, work in different ways to stop cancer cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. PURPOSE: This phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of rebeccamycin analog in treating patients with relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia, myelodysplastic syndrome, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, or chronic myelogenous leukemia in blast phase.
PET/MRI (positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance imaging) with somatostatin analog tracers has the potential to provide an imaging technique targeting subclinical granulomatous disease in those with latent tuberculosis (TB), allowing identification of individuals who may be at risk of progression to active TB.
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of rebeccamycin analog in treating patients who have advanced kidney cancer.
Parameters, sequences or paradigms optimisation in view of data quality and relevancy improvement.
The main hypothesis are: 1. Passive and Active-Passive airway conditioning devices reduce the incidence of ventilator associated pneumonia 2. Active-Passive airway conditioning devices reduce the incidence of endotracheal tube obstruction 3. Nurses' workload is reduced with Passive and Active-Passive airway conditioning devices
The rise of minimal access surgery has heralded the approval of a number of endovascular devices with similar indications. This is particularly true for the treatment of lower extremity ischemia. Comparable devices are selected for patient use somewhat arbitrarily, often dependent on industry influence. An unmet need is NON-industry sponsored prospective trials COMPARING devices head-to-head so that endovascular surgeons can even contemplate evidence-based device selection. At ...
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of rebeccamycin analog in treating children who have relapsed or refractory neuroblastoma.
Patients experience discomfort from lidocaine injections. Vibrating kinetic anesthesia devices have been shown to reduce pain of injections in dentistry, pediatrics, and dermatology, though no studies of lidocaine injections in sites common to dermatologic surgery exist. We will conduct a randomized split-body study, in which healthy volunteers will rate the pain of lidocaine injections on a visual analog scale, with and without the vibrating kinetic anesthesia device being use...
The aim of this project is to create ten smart devices that involve combining an interactive art environment with IC technology, arts and health administration. We invited the elderly residents of Chang Gung Health and Culture Village to participate in the application of these devices, and they were also requested to complete a technology acceptance model (TAM) questionnaire for these smart devices.
The intrauterine devices are a safe, reliable, long-acting and reversible contraceptive method. It is also sound safe and cheap contraceptive methods available and is nearly maintenance free for up to 10 years. The fear and the pain associated with intrauterine devices insertion consider barriers to using this contraception method, this is because that the mucosal lining of female genital tract is highly sensitive to touch and pain. However; most of small procedures done in th...
