Approximately 500 patients will be included in this patient registry. Data collection includes demographics, clinical data of underlying disease and use of bisphosphonates, denosumab and antiangiogenic drugs , degree and extension of osteonecrosis, osteonecrosis-specific treatment, outcomes and complications within 1 year after treatment.
The overall purpose of this project is to answer the following clinical question: Among Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw (MRONJ) patients, do those who are treated with the Pentoxifylline and Tocopherol (PENTO) regimen and standard of care, when compared to those treated with standard of care alone, have decreased areas of exposed bone after one year of treatment?
Patients who had bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw in stage II were allocated in two groups randomly : In group1, 10 patients underwent debridement and primary closer of the area,in group 2 , patients received Phenytoin + tetracycline topically in the debridement area.Wound dehiscence , infection and pain were in 1,6 and 12 months after treatment.
The aim of this research is to examine the natural history of osteonecrosis in older children, teenagers and young adults with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia and lymphoblastic lymphoma within the UK. In addition to using and validating new, internationally agreed, standard definitions for osteonecrosis, this study will provide the data needed to develop a radiological classification which correlates with clinical status.
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is the most common form of childhood cancer with current treatment survival rates approaching 80%. Improved outcomes show an increased number of survivors at risk for long-term treatment related side effects including osteonecrosis. Osteonecrosis, or bone death, is caused by blood supply loss to the bone causing pain and poor quality of life. The hips, shoulders, knees and ankles may be affected. Pain is the usual presenting symptom and may become s...
Medication related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw (MRONJ) consists of progressive destruction of bone in the maxillofacial area. It is an established complication which occurs in patients who take two main classes of antiresorptive drugs: Bisphosphonates (BP) and Denosumab. PRGF is a autologous platelet-enriched plasma obtained from the patient's own blood. It contains proteins that can influence and promote cell recruitment and its beneficial effect could consist in improving bone ...
In cooperation with Merck & Co, Inc. we will identify and form a database of 25-30 patients who have developed osteochemonecrosis of the jaws related to oral bisphosphonate use. We will study the triggers, associated medical conditions and medications, location of the lesion(s), and patient outcomes.
Osteonecrosis of the hip is an important cause of musculoskeletal disability and finding therapeutic solutions has proven to be challenging. Osteonecrosis means death of bone which can occur from the loss of the blood supply or some other means. Although any age group may develop osteonecrosis, most patients are between 20 and 50 years old. The most common risk factor is a history of high steroid treatment for some medical condition. The next most common associated condition is...
Aseptic osteonecrosis of the hip (AOH) concern 1 Swiss young adult to 1000 (30-40 years old). They are responsible to a severe joint destruction and in the majority of cases a joint replacement. To the hip, we can distinguish 4 stages of osteonecrosis according to Ficat: 1, 2, 3, 4. Stage 3 and 4 AOH management are unanimous surgical. But management of stage 1 and 2 are unclear. Bisphophonates are mainly used for bone and osteoporosis diseases. They decrease the bone turn over,...
Numerous studies describing surgical treatments to preserve hip replacements has several controversies and none of these procedures are universally accepted nor have compelling evidence for osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH). With developing a newly approach osteonecrotic device surgical procedure to support the regeneration of necrotic bone and articular cartilage in vivo, this will be the first randomized-controlled feasibility study to determine its safety in ONFH pati...
Mesenchymal Stem Cell (MSC) has been shown to have immunosuppressive and repairing properties. The investigators will infuse expanded autologous MSC into patients with osteonecrosis of the femoral head. The study purpose is to examine whether this treatment will result in improvement in osteonecrosis of the femoral head.
Several risk factors for the development of osteonecrosis of the femoral head following treatment of developmental dislocated hip have been reported. The need for further research with a large-enough sample size including statistical adjustment of confounders was demanded. The purpose of the present study was to find reliable predictors of osteonecrosis in patients managed for developmental dislocation of the hip and to evaluate if delayed treatment increased the risk of resid...
The purpose of this study is to determine if a medication therapy management program designed to reconcile a patient's medications and identify and resolve drug related problems can reduce adverse drug events and other measures of safety and improve patient satisfaction.
The purpose of this study is to determine if prolonged administration of low-dose aspirin will prevent the progression of early-stage osteonecrosis of the femoral head and may even reduce the extent of involvement of the femoral head by the necrotic process The design is intended to be parallel group where a total of 114 patients will be randomized in a 1:1 ratio to the treatment (ASA) and the control (Placebo) arms.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety of use of autologous bone marrow stem cells seeded on porous tricalcium phosphate matrix and demineralized bone matrix in patients with osteonecrosis of the jaw by a prospective, single-center, open, nonrandomized and unblinded clinical trial.
The goal of the project is to evaluate osteonecrosis before and after decompression surgery with ferumoxytol-enhanced MRI.
This randomized clinical trial aims to determine if cells from a patient's own adipose tissue is safe and capable of helping regenerate the femoral head in patients with osteonecrosis. The standard of care is known as hip decompression which simply removes dead tissue from the femoral head and creates a new cavity to be filled in by healthy bone. This trial will use hip decompression plus saline injection in one hip and hip decompression supplemented with adipose derived regene...
This study will assess the safety and efficacy of zoledronic acid in patients presenting with spontaneous osteonecrosis of the knee.
To determine the cumulative incidence of total hip replacement, time to event after treatment with Fosamax or placebo during the study peroid
RATIONALE: Gathering information about how often osteonecrosis of the jaw occurs in patients receiving zoledronic acid for bone metastases may help doctors learn more about the disease and provide the best follow-up care. PURPOSE: This clinical trial is studying osteonecrosis of the jaw in patients with cancer who are receiving zoledronic acid for bone metastases.
The purposes of the study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSC) in treating osteonecrosis of femoral head patients.
This study assesses whether an electronic medication management support system improves quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness of the drug therapy in adult patients with polypharmacy at fifteen (T1) months from baseline compared to usual care.
Electronic dispensers for polypharmacy are used in home care to assist patients with their medication management and to improve adherence. Opioid dependent patients with substitution therapy often exhibit multiple risk factors for non-adherence. The increase of both the age and associated comorbidities in this population demand for innovative solutions to optimize medication management. We developed a novel medication supply model with an automated electronic medication dispens...
The purpose of this study is to identify challenges and successes associated with implementing an enhanced medication therapy management service in primary care practice.
This study will evaluate if an electronic medication management software solution can improve outcomes for patients undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment. Participants will be randomized equally into two groups: half will use the management software, while the other half will act as a control group.
