This study will compare the effectiveness of cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT) to a minimal attention control (AC) condition for treatment of pediatric trichotillomania (TTM).
Trichotillomania (hair pulling) has an estimated lifetime prevalence of 1-3%. Children with trichotillomania can experience significant impairment due to peer teasing, avoidance of activities (such as swimming and socializing), difficulty concentrating on school work and medical complications due to pulling behaviors. Despite the fact that trichotillomania has a childhood onset, no randomized, controlled trials have been completed in childhood trichotillomania. Research...
This is an 8-week, double-blind study of Natrexone in the treatment of trichotillomania
This study will test the effectiveness of a new behavioral therapy for adults with trichotillomania (compulsive hair pulling).
The goal of the proposed study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of dronabinol in trichotillomania. 50 subjects with DSM-5 trichotillomania will receive 6 weeks of double-blind dronabinol or placebo. The hypothesis to be tested is that dronabinol will be effective and well tolerated in patients with trichotillomania compared to placebo. The proposed study will provide needed data on the treatment of a disabling disorder that currently lacks a clearly effective treatment.
This study will evaluate the safety and effectiveness of methylphenidate in treating attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children with both ADHD and trichotillomania. Trichotillomania is an impulse control disorder. There is growing evidences of the involvement of dopaminergic neurotransmission in the pathophysiology of trichotillomania. Reported increase in the prevalence of ADHD among patients with impulse control disorders, such as pathological gamblin...
The purpose of this study is to explore the safety, tolerability and activity of SXC-2023 when dosed for 6 weeks versus placebo in adult patients with moderate to severe Trichotillomania.
No medication has been reliably shown to benefit those suffering from trichotillomania (compulsive hair pulling). The current study proposes to evaluate the effectiveness of the medication aripiprazole for treatment of trichotillomania (TTM). Patients will take a gradually increased dose of the medication in an open-label study to see whether it relieves hair-pulling urges, decreases hair pulling behavior and is well tolerated.
This study will be the first randomized controlled trial of Comprehensive Behavior Modification (ComB) as a treatment of trichotillomania (TTM). ComB treatment (12 weekly sessions, following a manual developed in an earlier treatment development project) will be compared to Minimal Attention Control among adults (N = 42) with TTM.
Trichotillomania (TTM) or hair-pulling has been considered as part of the obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) spectrum, although treatment with OCD medications has largely been unsuccessful. Tics/Tourrettes’ Syndrome (TS) is a disorder, which appears to be related to TTM, but is treated with a different class of medications than used in OCD, namely antipsychotics such as olanzapine. This is a study of the safety and efficacy of olanzapine in the treatment of hair pulling.
The goal of the proposed study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of silymarin (milk thistle) in children with trichotillomania. The hypothesis to be tested is that silymarin will be more effective and well tolerated in children with trichotillomania compared to placebo. The proposed study will provide needed data on the treatment of a disabling disorder that currently lacks a clearly effective treatment.
In the specific setting of the evaluation of corticosteroids, pentoxifylline of their combination in severe alcoholic hepatitis, only meta-analysis combining individual data is able to provide detailed information from each individual with severe alcoholic hepatitis assessed by a DF ≥ 32. The need for such an approach is confirmed by the fact that in both univariate and multivariate analyses, truth survival is lower for conclusions from meta-analysis of the literature than fo...
This pilot study is being conducted in order to help make the case for later, more systematic research on the effectiveness of the Comprehensive Behavioral (COMB) model of treating trichotillomania (compulsive hair pulling). The goals are to standardize COMB treatment techniques in the form of a clear written manual for therapists; determine whether therapists can use these guidelines in a consistent manner in making treatment decisions; develop and test the reliability of mea...
The purpose of this study is to assess the extent of symptom remission in patients with trichotillomania following treatment with sertraline and/or behavior therapy.
This is a 12-week, double-blind study of N-Acetyl Cysteine in the treatment of trichotillomania
The research team used meta-analytical statistical methods to integrate the results of different research groups on Parkinson's disease, using meta-analysis to find key genes related to the pathogenesis and development of Parkinson's disease, and to make small clinical results. The verification of the sample, the internal mechanism of the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease and provide guidance and reference for subsequent experimental research.
The FDA have revised the data on soy and concluded that a heart health claim is no longer justified based on more recent studies. They are allowing and established panel for public input. The selected studies have not been meta-analyzed, therefore we will conduct a meta-analysis of the 46 FDA selected studies to assess the effect of soy protein on surrogate markers of cardiovascular disease (LDL-C and TC).
This study aims to develop a comprehensive Cognitive Behavioral Therapy protocol for adult patients with Trichotillomania that emphasizes relapse prevention and that addresses comorbid affective symptoms, as well. The study will compare the efficacy of CBT with a minimal attention control (MAC)condition. We hypothesize that outcome at post-treatment, 3-month, and 6-month follow-up will be better for the CBT vs. MAC condition including higher responder rates and greater reductio...
High saturated fat acids diets are associated with elevated blood pressure which is associated with cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. For this reason, a change of diet is recommended to manage blood pressure and prevent cardiovascular complications. To achieve this nutritional goal, a high-carbohydrate diet or high-monounsaturated fat diet can be advised in the replacement of a saturated fat diet. Previous meta-analysis of Garg (1998) cited randomized articles with incon...
The primary purpose of the current study is to evaluate the effectiveness of providing treatment for adolescents with trichotillomania through the use of telehealth. Parent or legal guardians' psychological flexibility scores will be assessed to determine if their levels of flexibility potentially moderate treatment outcomes. The study will test the following hypotheses: Hypothesis 1: Telepsychotherapy will result in significantly better trichotillomania symptom outcome...

This randomized controlled trial will assess the interpretability of the rank-heat plot for presenting the results of network meta-analysis in comparison to SUCRA (surface under the cumulative ranking) plots which are suggested to present one of the best ranking statistics.
The present study conducted a meta-analysis of 22 randomly controlled trials to assess the effects of soluble fiber intake on blood pressure in human subjects. Using the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Intervention, a systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted. Information regarding study methods, characteristics, mean BP and standard deviations were extracted The data from each study were pooled using a random effects model to estimate the effects of solubl...
This meta-analysis will be conducted to study the effect on vitamin D supplements on markers for cardiovascular disease and diabetes using individual participant data from 12 RCTs. Given that previous data suggest that vitamin D supplementation might be most effective in those individuals with very low 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) and potentially harmful in those achieving very high levels after vitamin D supplementation, this meta-analyses will be performed in subgroups acco...
This research trial studies qualitative, qualitative, and functional studies over the first year in measuring immune system response in patients with brain tumors. Measuring the number of immune cells, whether these immune cells work correctly, and response to 2 vaccines at several times during the first year of treatment may help find out how active the immune system responds to fight infection and cancer.
