Re-Energize With Nutrition, Exercise and Weight Loss

The purpose of this project is to establish a Center of Excellence in Research on Obesity that will focus on severe obesity. The prevalence of severe obesity (i.e., Class 2 and 3 obesity; body mass index > 35 kg/m2 and 40 kg/m2) is increasing more rapidly than is overweight and Class 1 obesity. Treatment guidelines for severe obesity are uncertain. Three novel hypotheses regarding the pathogenesis of severe obesity will be tested: a) using non-invasive methods to measure ene...

Awareness, Care & Treatment In Obesity Management - An International Observation

The purpose of this survey is to collect the data on perceptions, behaviours and awareness related to obesity and obesity management for People with Obesity (PwO) and Health Care Professionals (HCP) treating obesity. Data will be collected via online surveys among each of the respondent groups. The surveys are expected to take approximately 25 minutes to complete and will be unique for PwO and HCP. As a cross-sectional study, there will be no treatment of patients.

Inflammation, Diabetes, Ethnicity and Obesity Cohort

Obesity affects over one third of US adults (>72 million, with BMI ≥30 kg/m2), and the proportion of US adults with BMI ≥40 kg/m2 has doubled in the last 20 years. Obesity is associated with increased mortality through its linkage to comorbidities including diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea and psychosocial disturbances. Given its prevalence, impact on morbidity and mortality, and economic cost, limiting the spread of obesity and its conseque...

Comparison of Workplace Obesity Management Programs

The purpose of this study is to design and demonstrate the feasibility of implementing moderate and intensive environmental obesity prevention programs at major worksites.

Community-based Obesity Treatment in African American Women After Childbirth

The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of the community-based obesity treatment (PP), compared to usual care (UC), on changes in maternal weight over 12 months.

Parents As The Agent Of Change For Childhood Obesity (PAAC)

The objective of this study is to test and evaluate the effectiveness of a parent-only treatment for childhood obesity. This study provides state-of-the-art treatment for childhood obesity. Parents and children will participate in treatment groups for 6 months. These treatment groups include recommendations to decrease overall caloric intake (by increasing fruits and vegetables), increasing physical activity, decreasing sedentary behavior and changing the home food environmen...

Childhood Obesity Prevention Program for Hispanics

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of a culturally-appropriate childhood obesity intervention with Hispanic families. The program aims at preventing childhood obesity by targeting parents to address nutrition, physical activity, and sedentary behaviors in their children.

Stress Management in Obesity During a Thermal Spa Residential Program

Stress can lead to obesity via inappropriate eating. In addition, obesity is a major stress factor. Furthermore, stressed people are also those who have the greatest difficulties to lose weight. The relationships between obesity and stress are biological via the action of stress on the major hormones regulating appetite (leptin, ghrelin). International recommendation proposals suggest to implement stress management programs in obesity for a sustainable weight loss. Moreover, st...

Genetic Determinants and Clinical Consequences of Early-onset Severe Obesity

The aim of the present study is to identify new obesity-related genetic defects and determine their association with clinical manifestations in families with childhood-onset severe obesity. The investigators hypothesize that by exploring children with severe early-onset obesity they can find new obesity-related genetic defects and by exploring obesity-associated clinical manifestations the investigators can elucidate the outcomes of severe childhood obesity.

Genetics of Obesity in Chinese Youngs

The purpose of this study is to explore the pathogenesis and genetic susceptibility of obese subjects, providing a convincing argument for further treatment of obesity and metabolic syndrome.

Impact of Comprehensive Intervention on the Cardiometabolic Risk in Children With Central Obesity (IGENOI)Obesity

Central obesity, present in the metabolic syndrome (MS), is associated with increased risk of insulin resistance (RI). The aim of the project is to evaluate the protective effect of comprehensive intervention (Mediterranean diet + physical activity) in the development of RI in children with central obesity based on genetic and epigenetic markers.

OCEAN Registry: Obesity and Clock for Elegant Aging Registry

This study aims to study the relationships between obesity, circadian rhythm, and aging. The investigators set up a prospective cohort registry for morbid obesity, obesity, and normal subjects with annual follow-up. The cohort aims to investigate the pathophysiological, molecular, genetic, and cellular aspects of the relationships between obesity, circadian deregulation, and impacts on aging. Clinical data, questionnaires, biological material, and molecular signatures will be c...

Bariatric Surgery Registry

Periodic analyses of our extensive database with regards to different surgical procedures for severe obesity and different obesity co-morbidities will be of benefit to our severely obese patients as well as to others world-wide.

Obesity-related Inflammation in Patients Prior to and After Bariatric Surgery

This study investigates the chronic long-term health condition of obesity and its effect on neutrophil function and the inflammatory response

Deep Brain Stimulation for Morbid Obesity

This is an open-label, phase I pilot trial designed to evaluate the safety and feasibility of deep brain stimulation (DBS) for the treatment of refractory morbid obesity. Patients with diagnoses of morbid obesity will be recruited and enrolled. All patients will receive DBS targeting two brains areas involved in the pathophysiology of obesity and will be followed post-operatively for 12 months.

Pediatric Obesity Research Registry

The Pediatric Obesity Research Registry will function to collect and catalog historical and medical chart related clinical data of patients presenting with pediatric obesity and who agree to participate.

Early Childhood Obesity Programming by Intrauterine Growth Restriction

The molecular mechanisms underlying developmental programming of childhood obesity remain poorly understood. Here, the investigators address major questions about early childhood obesity programming by studying CD3+ T-cells from intrauterine growth restricted (IUGR) newborns who have an increased risk for obesity and other metabolic disorders in adult life.

Adult Weight, Genetics and Lifestyle Factors

Childhood obesity leads to adulthood obesity, demonstrated in many retrospective and longitudinal studies. Genetics as a predictor of obesity is less established. Morandi et al, (2012) assessed whether lifestyle and genetic factors can be used to predict childhood obesity, concluding that genetics had minimal predictive effect. More recently Seyednasrollah, (2017) demonstrated that genetic information, when alongside clinical factors for cardiovascular disease, increased the pr...

Geisinger Education Intervention Study in Obesity Protocol

Overweight and obesity has become an epidemic which warrants more aggressive treatment. However, few primary care physicians (PCPs) address this issue or do not possess adequate education regarding treatment modalities such as nutrition counseling or bariatric surgery. The primary goal of this study will be to determine whether the referrals for weight management can be influenced through obesity education.

Efficacy and Results of Endoscopic Gastroplasty Using Overstitch in Patients With Class I and II Obesity

Obesity is a chronic disease that has grown to epidemic proportions in Brazil and throughout the world in recent years. Bariatric surgery has been the most effective method for the treatment and prophylaxis of complications caused by morbid obesity, thereby increasing the longevity and quality of life of patients. The treatment of patients with Class III obesity or higher or Class II with comorbidities is already well established with bariatric surgery being the best option. Ho...
