Adherence to daily dosing is very important for how well Emtricitabine/Tenofovir Alafenamide (F/TAF) works for treatment of chronic HIV, or prevention of HIV acquisition. Methods to measure medication adherence to Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (tenofovir DF, TDF), a similar but different prodrug of tenofovir, have been developed but cannot be extrapolated to F-TAF. By measuring F-TAF (the drug) and metabolites in the blood cells and dried blood spots, the study plans to see if ...
This study will explore screening for immunodeficiency diseases (diseases that cause problems in fighting infections). There is no method at present to screen all babies at birth for immunodeficiency. However, babies with low numbers of T-cells-an important type of immune system cell-may be found by studying T-cell products called TRECs (T-cell receptor excision circles). This study will: - Collect samples from children with several different immunodeficiencies to find out ...
The pharmacokinetics of 10 to 12 individuals receiving 60 mg of sustained release dexamphetamine will be studied. These individuals have received this medication before in a previous trial where the pharmacodynamics were investigated. This trial will last 5 consecutive days during which blood samples will be drawn for pharmacokinetics analyses. Dried blood spots will also be collected for the clinical validation of the bioanalytical method wherein these are used.

This is a randomized clinical trial to assess whether a subject centered, self-collection of Dried blood spots (DBS) samples will improve compliance with the clinical recommendation of weekly Cytomegalovirus (CMV) testing of Hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) recipients who are at high risk for late CMV disease. In this study, mobile devices will be used to remind HCT survivors to perform CMV monitoring using finger-stick collected DBS testing in their home setting or to ...
To avoid iodine deficiency and its consequences in pregnant women and their offspring, women should reach a sufficient iodine intake long before conception. To monitor iodine status, median urinary iodine concentration (UIC) is widely used in pregnant women (PW). Thyroglobulin (Tg) us another marker used to assess iodine status . In this study, urine samples as well as dried blood spots will be collected to measure UIC and Tg (as well as other hormones to define thyroid functio...
This will be a single-arm observational cohort study. Malaria patients with Plasmodium vivax and meeting study inclusion criteria, who give consent to be enrolled in the study, will have their G6PD status measured by the CareStart™ G6DP rapid diagnostic test (G6PD RDT), and primaquine prescribed according to the result. According to the G6PD RDT result, primaquine will be prescribed at 0.25mg/kg/day for 14 days (normal patients) or 0.75mg/kg weekly for eight weeks (deficient ...
FIND is preparing a study to evaluate the performance, as measured by sensitivity and specificity, of three centralized assays for the detection of HCV RNA using capillary blood collected on dried blood spots (DBS) and plasma separation card (PSC).
This is an observational study (case-control study) aiming to identify risk factors for malaria infection in health centers or malaria posts or district hospitals in Buntharik District and Nachalui District, Ubon Ratchathani Province, Thailand. This study expects to recruit 330 cases (malaria positive) and 330 control (negative cases) subject. One-to-one matching of cases (malaria positive) and controls (malaria negative) will be done at each study site. CASE (Malaria p...
This study aims to identify signs of depression and bipolar disorder by measuring changes of certain molecules (biomarkers) that can be detected in dried blood spots. Our goal is to use these biomarkers to develop a diagnostic test to enable early treatment, which can lead to better patient outcomes.
To test if the routine newborn screening dried blood spots can be used to test if elevation of C26:0 lysophosphatidylcholine (C26:0-lyso-PC), a status indicating adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD)
This study is a Phase 1, single-center, open-label, ascending dose study which will assess the safety and tolerability of 5 doses of spray-dried solvent/detergent treated plasma (Resusix®) in healthy volunteers.
This study will assess the distribution of a microbicidal gel in the vagina and confirm the presence of bare spots. MRIs will be done with and without the addition of the MRI contrast Gadolinium to the microbicide in order to determine whether the bare spots are an artifact of the MRI technique.
Our overall goal is to validate efficacy and potential superiority of dried leaf Artemisia annua (DLA) vs. artemisinin combination therapy (ACT) to cure malaria and to demonstrate elimination of the transmission stage (gametocytes) of the disease. This is a 3 arm trial in Democratic Republic of Congo covering 600 total adult and pediatric patients. Final validation of infection from dried blood samples will be done at WPI.
Postmenopausal women often seek non-pharmacologic interventions for the protection of bone health. Previous research in humans and rodents has indicated that dietary dried plum consumption may be beneficial for bone health, especially in postmenopausal women. However, it is unknown in what quantity dried plums need to be consumed to be of benefit and through what mechanisms dried plums act to impact bone health. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of ...
This study aims at estimating the prevalence of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in rural Senegal (area of Niakhar) and at evaluating the associated burden in terms of both health-related and socio-economic consequences.
