The aim of this multicenter randomized clinical trial is to compare the clinical, microbiological and immunological effects of the adjunctive use of systemic metronidazole plus amoxicillin administered in different phases of the treatment of generalized chronic periodontitis.
The purpose of this study is to test combined effects of scaling and root planing with periodontal surgery, systemically administered amoxicillin and metronidazole, and/or local tetracycline on pocket depth reduction and attachment level "gain" in patients with chronic periodontitis.
The purpose of this study is to determine if treating periodontal infections (gum disease) will reduce markers of systemic inflammation in patients at risk of cardiovascular diseases.
The purpose of this study is to determine in current and non-smokers the clinical and microbiological effects of 3 therapies: scaling and root planing (SRP) alone; SRP in combination with the orally administered antibiotic metronidazole; and SRP with the orally administered antibiotics metronidazole and amoxicillin along with the locally delivered antibiotic doxycycline at periodontal pockets >= 4 mm.
Periodontitis is an inflammation of the supporting structures of the teeth, usually caused by specific or groups of microorganisms that results in the progressive destruction of the periodontal ligament and alveolar bone. the objective of periodontitis treatment is to reduce the number of periodontal pathogens. However, there is not an agreement in the use of systemic antibiotics in patients with diabetes. The purpose of the present study was to determine the efficacy of amox...
Amoxicillin and metronidazole （400mg Q.D.S） based quadruple therapy had achieved a high cure rate in the rescue treatment of helicobacter pylori infection. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the amoxicillin and metronidazole (400mg thrice a day) based triple therapy and the addition of bismuth in the naive patients with helicobacter pylori infection.
Patients infected with H. pylori were randomly assigned to the dual therapy with vonoprazan 20 mg bid and amoxicillin 500 mg tid for 1 week or the triple therapy with vonoprazan 20 mg bid, amoxicillin 750 mg bid and clarithromycin 200 mg or metronidazole 250 mg bid bid for 1 week. Success or failure of eradication was determined by the 13C-urea breath test performed at 1 month after the therapy.
The purpose of this study is to determine the clinical and microbiological effects of systemically administered metronidazole alone or in combination with professional plaque removal on periodontally diseased patients.
More than half of the world's population is infected with Helicobacter pylori, a bacterium that colonizes the human stomach. Although most infected subjects live free of symptoms and disease outcomes (except superficial gastritis), only a few develop peptic ulcers or gastric cancer, while some others may develop non-ulcer dyspepsia. Current clinical practice for the management of peptic ulcer disease includes testing for and treating H. pylori, if present. Although there are t...
This study evaluates the effect of amoxicillin in the treatment of lower airway infections in preschool children. Half of the patients will receive amoxicillin, while the other half will receive placebo.
Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is the most common chronic bacterial infection in humans. The prevalence of H. pylori is about 30~50% in the Western adult population. It is estimated that about 50% of people are infected with this bacterium in Taiwan. Many studies have shown that H. pylori is an important causal factor of chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer disease, gastric cancer and gastric lymphoma. The World Health Organization classified H. pylori as a Group 1 carcinogen in 19...
Helicobacter pylori infection causes chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer disease and is involved in the development of gastric cancer. Current accepted strategies to eliminate the infection in children are a 10 days sequential treatment (proton pump inhibitor + amoxicillin 5 days followed by proton pump inhibitor + metronidazole + clarithromycin 5 days) or a triple therapy 14 days (proton pump inhibitor + amoxicillin + clarithromycin or metronidazole). However, there is a c...
Considering the beneficiary properties of both Chlorhexidine (CHX) and Metronidazole (MTZ) such as property of substantivity and diffusion of these drugs on the external surfaces through the anatomical communication channels in between the root canals and periodontium, may be utilized as an alternative approach for the delivery of drug ( intracanal medicament) in the deep periodontal pockets in concurrent endodontic- periodontic lesion with communication lesions. Thus the aim o...
The purpose of this project is to obtain important preliminary data necessary to support design of a full scale, multicenter randomized clinical trial (RCT) to evaluate the effect of treating periodontal infection on glycemic control in type 2 diabetes mellitus.
There are not published studies evaluating the incidence, nature, magnitude and/or duration of bacteremia after periodontal treatment. The pre-surgical antibiotics have been studied particullary over Gram positive bacterial but not over gram negative bacterial and their secondary effects over the systemic pro-inflamation. Objective: to evaluate the efficacy of intensive periodontal therapy and pre-medication with oral amoxicilline on inflammatory bio-markers and the incidence, ...
The aim of this study is to assess the clinical outcomes of full-mouth ultrasonic debridement combined with clarithromycin or amoxicillin + metronidazole association for the treatment of generalized aggressive periodontitis (GAgP).
Generate human PK data by collecting data following the application of metronidazole formulations.
The purposes of this study are to: 1. compare the clinical effectiveness of a traditional and a medical model of periodontal therapy; and 2. determine the value of the two approaches to periodontal therapy.
Clarithromycin (CLA)、amoxicillin (AMO)、metronidazole (MET)、levofloxacin (LEV) and tetracycline (TET) are commonly used antibiotics for Helicobacter pylori (Hp) therapy. However, the efficacy of treatment for Helicobacter pylori infection has decreased due to increasing resistance to CLA, MET and LEV. Studies had reported that beside antibiotics resistance, other factors such as age, sex, underlying disease, etc. may also affect the treatment efficacy. In some cases, when ...

This is a prospective, Phase 3, randomized, multi-center, double-blind study of the efficacy, tolerability and safety of sulopenem followed by sulopenem etzadroxil with probenecid versus ertapenem followed by ciprofloxacin-metronidazole or amoxicillin-clavulanate for treatment of complicated intra-abdominal infections in adults.
The goal of this project is to study the immune activity of certain proteins present in the blood of patients with severe periodontal disease. Periodontal disease (gum disease) is the major cause of tooth loss among adults. Moderate to severe periodontal disease is reported to affect 5-15% of American adults. It begins with an infection of the tissues surrounding the teeth, and leads to a worsening inflammatory response. This study will aid in clarifying the way in which gum di...
Periodontal disease is associated with the components of Metabolic syndrome, such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension and hyperlipidemia. Therefore, strong relation with periodontal disease and metabolic syndrome is suggested. the overall goal of this study is to define the relation between periodontal disease and metabolic syndrome, including atherosclerosis.
Helicobacter pylori is a bacteria that infects the lining of the stomach and is associated with ulcers. Helicobacter pylori may also increase the long-term risk of developing certain forms of gastric cancer. Curing this infection generally requires that patients take 2 or more antibiotic medications and a stomach acid suppressing medication for about two weeks. Current treatments do not always cure the infection and a new treatment is being tested in this study. The drugs invol...
Aesthetics for individuals become increasingly important, while the aesthetic effects of periodontal disease is an important issue that should be assessed by the patient's perception. The results demonstrate that the periodontal aesthetic perception scale showed reliable and valid scores in healthy controls and periodontal patients. The periodontal aesthetic perception scale may be an appropriate tool to assess periodontal esthetic in clinical and research settings.
