To assess the rate of wound complications and evaluate the effectiveness of antibiotic prophylaxis in vulvar wide local excision procedures.

Paget disease of the vulva.

Vulvar Paget disease (VPD) is an unusual and rare adenocarcinoma that can be challenging to diagnose. Although the condition has a high treatment success rate, it can be associated with underlying malignancy, recurrence rates can be high, and patients often need regular and frequent follow-up. The article describes a woman whose nonresolving, pruritic vulvar lesion was found to be VPD on biopsy.

Primary lymphangioma circumscriptum of the vulva presenting as warty plaques.

Lymphangioma circumscriptum is a benign hamartomatous malformation involving the lymphatic system of skin and subcutaneous tissue. It can involve any part of the body with maximum predilection for proximal parts of limbs. Vulvar involvement is quite infrequent. Based on the aetiopathogenesis, it can be either primary or secondary, with the secondary form being relatively more common in vulva. We r...

Clinical and molecular classification of vulvar squamous pre-cancers.

Vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN) is a precursor to vulvar squamous cell carcinoma and is defined histopathologically by the presence of atypia. VIN has been classified into two types: usual vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (uVIN), which is also referred to as a vulvar high-grade squamous intra-epithelial lesion (HSIL), and differentiated VIN (dVIN). The former is associated with chronic infe...

Myoepithelioma-like tumor of the vulvar region showing infiltrative growth and harboring only a few estrogen receptor-positive cells: A case report.

Recently, a new entity "myoepithelioma-like tumor of the vulvar region (MELTVR)" was proposed as a rare mesenchymal neoplasm arising in vulvar regions of adult women. While MELTVRs morphologically resemble soft tissue myoepitheliomas and extraskeletal myxoid chondrosarcomas, they have a unique immunohistochemical profile (positive for epithelial membrane antigen and estrogen receptor, negative for...

An infiltrated vulvar plaque.

Vulvar squamous cell carcinoma: a clinico-dermoscopic correlation.

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the most common malignant vulvar tumor.1 It primarily affects post-menopausal women; its precursor lesions are vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN), in particular the "differentiated" subtype, and/or human papillomavirus (HPV) infection.1 The final diagnosis of vulvar SCC is made by histopathology, which is similar to that of SCC affecting other body areas, disti...

Vulvar malignant melanoma: Pathogenesis, clinical behaviour and management: Review of the literature.

Vulvar malignant melanoma (VMM) is a rare disease, accounting for 5% of all vulvar malignancies and is characterized by low survival and high recurrence rates. It is considered as a distinct entity of mucosal melanoma. Prognostic factors are higher age, advanced Breslow thickness, and lymph node involvement whilst central localization and ulceration status are still under debate. Surgery is the co...

Evaluation of the effectiveness of treatment of vulvar lichen sclerosus et atrophicus. Analysis of own material and review of the literature.

The study group included eleven female patients aged 18-77 years with a diagnosis of lichen sclerosus. Basic therapy consisted in the application of clobetasol in the first month and then once a day for the following two months. Then, clobetasol was recommended once a week until full resolution of the symptoms.

Recurrence of endometrial carcinoma presenting as vulvar lesions.

Endometrial cancer is the most common gynecological malignancy in developed countries. Although this cancer generally carries a good prognosis, 10%-15% of patients will suffer recurrent disease and vulvar metastasis is extremely rare. A 60-year-old female (G3P3) was referred to the vulvo-vaginal clinic in Shaare Zedek Medical Center, Jerusalem, Israel, with a 3-month history of painful vulvar lesi...

Rethinking the techno vagina: a case series of patient complications following vaginal laser treatment for atrophy.

The treatment of genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM) includes prescription hormone therapy, nonhormonal over-the-counter products, and most recently, laser treatment. Although the Food and Drug Administration has cleared fractional carbon dioxide (CO2) laser for a variety of dermatologic and gynecologic indications, lasers have not to date, been approved for use for vulvar/vaginal atrophy, o...

Calcinosis Cutis of the Vulva: A Review.

Idiopathic calcinosis cutis (CC) is an uncommon skin condition. Although it has been reported many times in the scrotum, it is exceedingly rare in the vulva. Most reports of vulvar CC are in children. Vulvar CC may be thought clinically to be inclusion cysts. Other causes of calcinosis such as autoimmune disease or alterations in serum calcium levels, potentially associated with malignancy, must b...

Factors predicting young women's willingness to conduct vulvar self-examinations in Korea.

Vulvar self-examination (VSE) is an essential examination that all women should perform monthly, as it enables potential patients to discover vulvar cancer in early stage. In this study, a survey was conducted to identify the factors that affect Korean young women's willingness to conduct VSE. Willingness to conduct VSE was higher if the perceived benefit and the individual health motivation were ...

Recalcitrant Vulvar Lichen Sclerosus Treated With Erbium YAG Laser.

Vulvar Paget disease: a national retrospective cohort study.

Vulvar Paget disease (VPD) is a rare skin disorder, considered premalignant.

Should we really abandon inguinal lymphadenectomy in the treatment of vulvar cancer?

Rodríguez-Trujillo et al. present a very interesting retrospective study on inguinal lymphadenectomy (IFL) vs sentinel lymph node dissection (SLN) in vulvar cancer. Several studies have been published analyzing this topic. However, a prospective randomized study is still missing. Although SLN leads to lower morbidity, there are still concerns, whether SLN is as safe as IFL regarding groin recurr...

Vulvar Lipoma: A Case Report.

The present study is a case report of vulvar lipoma. The vulva is a rare site for the development of lipomas, and the aim of the study is to determine if the current imaging modalities can diagnose lipomas correctly. A 43-year-old patient presented with a painless, slowly progressive, oval, mobile and non-tender right vulvar mass compressing the vagina and totally covering the introitus. Both the ...

Vulvar Cancer Association with Groin Hidradenitis Suppurativa: A Large, Urban, Midwestern U.S. Patient Population Study.

PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY IN VULVAR LYMPHANGIOMA: CASE REPORT.

The aim of this case report was to evaluate the treatment of vulvar lymphangioma applying photodynamic therapy (PDT). Patient aged 61 years old complained of burning, local pain, which caused intense discomfort for over 5 years. She had developed vulvar edema, papules and vesicles that draining clear exudate, in which histological finding confirmed the vulvar lymphangioma. A red diode laser (Photo...

Possibilities of local phlebectomy in correction of pelvioperineal venous reflux.

The work was based on the results of examination and treatment of 43 female patients presenting with varicose transformation of pelvic, perineal, and lower-limb veins. The inclusion criteria were as follows: the presence of visually determined varicose transformation of the veins of the external genital organs, perineum, posterior surface of the thighs, as well as valvular insufficiency of the men...

Sentinel node mapping in vulvar carcinoma.

Vulvar cancer typically spreads through the inguinofemoral lymph nodes and traditionally en bloc resection of these nodes is performed as their status is an important prognostic factor. Sentinel lymph node (SLN) mapping in vulvar carcinoma directs the surgeon to the first draining node from the tumour. Hypothesis of sentinel node(SLN) biopsy is that, if these nodes are negative for malignancy, the...

Balanitis xerotica obliterans: a review of diagnosis and management.

Balanitis xerotica obliterans (BXO), or penile lichen sclerosus, is a progressive sclerosing inflammatory dermatosis of the glans penis and foreskin. It is associated with significant morbidity and may result in impaired urinary and sexual function. It was initially described by Stuhmer in 1928, named after its pathological features, and is considered the male equivalent of vulvar lichen sclerosis...

Melanocytic lesions - Staying out of trouble.

The diagnosis of melanocytic tumors is notoriously difficult and represents one of the most challenging areas in surgical pathology associated with significant risk for litigation. One reason is the wide morphologic spectrum of melanocytic tumors and the fact that many histological features are shared by both benign melanocytic nevi and melanoma. Awareness of the many morphologic variations and va...

Time series analysis of TP53 gene mutations in recurrent HPV-negative vulvar squamous cell carcinoma.

The impact of TP53 gene mutations in recurrent HPV-negative vulvar squamous cell carcinomas is unclear. TP53 gene mutations were analyzed in archival tissues of 24 primary squamous cell carcinoma and local vulvar recurrences arising in chronic inflammatory dermatoses by analyzing the full coding sequence of the TP53 gene and correlated with disease-free survival. After resection of the primary squ...
