Vitamin B6 is a water-soluble vitamin that exists in three major chemical forms: pyridoxine, pyridoxal, and pyridoxamine. It is commenly used in the body as a co-enzyme, and thus regulates many of the body's processes, including the physiological functions of hemoglobin, immune system function and carbohyrate metabolism, explaining the anemia, poor immune system and malnutrition present in deficient patients.

B6 has been implicated in a number of conditions including heart disease, carpel tunnel and premenstrual syndrome, but scientific papers are contreversial. B6 toxicity can cause peripheral neuropathies.
