Catachem Announces the Introduction of the Pre-Albumin (TBPA) In-Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) Chemistry Reagent Kit Bridgeport,
Connecticut, USA (November 14, 2003)…. Catachem, Inc. (Catachem, Private)
today announced the addition of the Pre-Albumin (tryptophan-rich
prealbumin, thyroxine-binding prealbumin, TBPA) in
vitro diagnostic chemistry reagent kit to Catachem’s existing product line of
over 30 chemistries and more than 100 products. This
assay measures levels of Pre-Albumin in blood serum. Pre-albumin has a half-life
of only two days, which means that it breaks down quickly in the body and the
amount changes quickly. This short half-life helps doctors to get a more
immediate picture of the patient’s nutritional state. Pre-albumin is used to diagnose nutritional disorders.
Pre-albumin is most often used to help doctors diagnose protein-calorie
malnutrition. In this condition, which can affect more than 30% of hospitalized
patients, the body breaks down muscle, protein, and body fat. This type of
malnutrition can lead to complications and even death if not treated. Children
with malnutrition may fail to thrive or have stunted growth.
Benjamin
Twombly, Vice President Sales and Marketing, commented, “We seek to provide
better answers to the questions of predisposition,
predilection, diagnosis, dosage, efficacy, prognosis, and
pharmacology for the identification, treatment and monitoring of patient
health.” Luis P. Leon, President,
commented, “Recent changes in the industry have caused many professionals to
discover Catachem as the sensible solution. Catachem develops manufactures and
markets over 100 diagnostic products for both human and veterinary clinical
laboratories.” About
