Catachem Introduces the Glycated Serum Protein, Fructosamine (FR)
In-Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) Chemistry Reagent Kit.

Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA (December 2, 2003)…. Catachem, Inc. (Catachem, Private) today announced the addition of the Glycated Serum Protein (Fructosamine, FR) in vitro diagnostic (IVD) chemistry reagent kit for human and veterinary clinical laboratories.

Fructosamine is a medium term indicator of diabetic control in the time range from 2 to 3 weeks. In diabetic patients, elevated blood glucose levels correlate with increased fructosamine formation.  Fructosamine is formed due to a non-enzymatic Maillard reaction between glucose and amino acid residues of proteins. Proteinase K digests GSP into low molecular weight glycated protein fragments (GPF) and uses Catachem's specific fructosaminase™, a microorganism originated amadoriase to catalyze the oxidative degradation of Amadori product GPF to yield amino acids, glucosone and H2O2.  The H2O2 released is measured by a colorimetric Trinder end-point reaction. The absorbance at 550 nm is proportional to the concentration of glycated serum proteins (GSP). FR is a two reagent chemistry available in one size.  Reagents are packaged ready-to-use in glass bottles. A high and low control and calibrator are required and available separately: FR Kit CC112A, FR Calibrator CC112A-S, FR Control1 CC112A-C1, FR Control 2 CC112A-C2.

Benjamin Twombly, Vice President Sales and Marketing, commented, “This new assay provides a faster and more accurate assay as part of our Diabetic Panel and provides a more comprehensive service for our customers.”  Luis P. Leon, President, commented, “We are pleased to add this assay to our rapidly growing product offerings”.
