Bio-Rad ChipWriter
Compact System performs like larger systems
HERCULES, CA, October 29, 2002 The small
size of Bio-Rad's new VersArray ChipWriter Compact system belies the
outstanding performance delivered by this high-quality DNA array spotting
system. With a footprint of just 60 cm x 87 cm, its performance is
superior to most larger systems.
The easy-to-use system is ideal for researchers in advance stages of
experimentation needing smaller arrays for custom runs, or in situations
where funding or bench space is limited. The user simply connects the
VersArray ChipWriter Compact system to a computer, defines an array
process and runs the application. Even wash and dry procedures can be
defined based on application needs.
The VersArray ChipWriter Compact system is fully compatible with most
microarray scanners, including Bio-Rad's new VersArray ChipReader
system. Bio-Rad offers custom-bundled systems to help users meet
microarraying compatibility and budget requirements.
Spotting, gridding or both.
The versatile VersArray ChipWriter Compact system is available as a
microarray slide spotting system, a membrane gridding system or both. Up
to 48 pins can be used in the print head in the microarray slide spotting
configuration. This means, for example, that 24 slides, each containing
the entire yeast genome (approximately 6,200 genes), can be spotted in
less than four hours. It takes less than 10 minutes to change the
configuration from microarray spotting to membrane gridding.
The instrument arrays cDNA, DNA and other biological samples from 96-well,
384-well or 1,536-well source plates onto glass slides or membranes.
Microarray spotting configuration allows printing >57,000 spots per
slide. Membrane gridding configuration can print nearly 25,000 spots per
membrane using 48 pins. Capacity is up to 24 slides, including 4 blot
slides.
The environmental chamber is full-enclosed, humidity-controlled amd HEPA-filtered,
with positive air pressure, protecting samples and materials.
The software's intuitive graphical user interface makes it easy for
researchers to program the robot to match spotting needs and substrates,
vary pin time in the well and adjust axis speed.
The VersArray ChipWriter Compact system is part of Bio-Rad's new family of
microarray products, which also includes: VersArray ChipReader,
VersArray ChipWriter Pro system, VersArray colony picker and arrayer
systems and VersArray analysis software. This completes Bio-Rad's
extensive suite of imaging systems.
