The metro Denver area’s medical device and diagnostics sector ranks as the country’s 8th largest by direct employment, with an estimated 340 companies and 11,160 jobs.
These numbers from the nine-county metro Denver area represent approximately 80% of the total statewide employment in the device and diagnostics sector.

Colorado claims companies with global reach, as well as new arrivals gaining national and international recognition. Several companies from around the state highlight the breadth of medical device and diagnostics development happening in Colorado.
Bio2 Medical - Golden
Creator of the Angel Catheter, the first device approved by the FDA to be marketed for preventative pulmonary embolism protection. It’s designed for use in an ICU setting, for patients who can’t be put on blood thinning drugs. Named CBSA’s Rising Star of the Year in 2016.
Green Sun Medical – Fort Collins

Developer of a low-cost, high-sensitivity, multi-pathogen detection system. Uses LightDeck Technology for rapid, on-the-spot mobile disease detection.
Medtronic Navigation, Inc. – Louisville
Innovator at the forefront of surgical navigation solutions, guiding the industry to a higher standard of care for several clinical specialties, including cranial neurosurgery, functional neurosurgery, spinal, ENT, joint replacement and orthopedic trauma surgeries.
Developer of the first prostate biopsy system that will use light to classify tissue during biopsy procedures. Significant milestones include: $5 million raised in 2016 and $33.6 million in 2015.
Spectranetics – Colorado Springs
Developer, manufacturer, marketer and distributor of medical devices used in minimally invasive procedures within the cardiovascular system. Products are available in 65 countries, used to treat arterial blockages in the heart and legs and to remove and support the removal of pacemaker and defibrillator leads. The company announced its acquisition by Philips in June of 2017.
